Behind the Ask - A Chance Encounter (repost)

One night I was getting my things out of my car when a petite, middle-aged Asian woman approached me.  “Do you have a dollar?” She asked.

Surprised by her intrusion of my space, I said, “I’m sorry. I don’t.”  She tried to confirm that I didn’t have a dollar on me.  “I’m sorry,” I repeated.

I saw her approaching another woman with the same question.  “I don’t usually have cash on me,” the other woman replied, walking away, not making eye contact.

As I made my way toward my destination, I saw that the asker was heading in the same direction in front of me.

A donut shop came into view.  Suddenly feeling altruistic, I thought, maybe she’s hungry, maybe I do have a dollar, I do have a credit card.  Hey, if she’s hungry, I can get her a donut!

As I walked up to her, she was taking a discarded plastic bottle out of a garbage can she just uncovered.

“What do you need a dollar for?” I asked.

“To get a calling card.”

Though a bit thrown off by her response, I probed for more details.  In her broken English, she explained that she already had four dollars.  She just needed one more dollar to purchase a calling card, which she would use to call her family in the Philippines.

“How many calls can you make with the calling card?” I asked.

She replied that it would get her 13 minutes on the phone with her family.

Thirteen minutes.

“Well, I was going to use my credit card …” I muttered, taking out my wallet, and started digging for cash.

“It’s okay,” she said, meaning: “Don’t worry about it.”

I took out a dollar and handed it to her.

“Be sure to call your family,” I said as I put my wallet away, secretly hoping that she was telling the truth.  With such detail?  Probably.

“I will,” she said.

People can surprise you – if you give yourself a chance to get to know them.

“What do you need a dollar for?”
I bet not a lot of people have asked her this question.  Most likely walked away without a second thought.

Everyone has a story.  I don’t know what this woman's whole story is.  But by being genuinely curious, asking questions, and listening, I briefly connected with her and potentially helped her connect with her family 7,431 miles away.

How to Access Higher Wisdom through Automatic Writing (repost)

Totally alone.

That's how you feel. You've been wanting an answer to a question that has been weighing on your mind. You've turned to friends, family, your therapist, self-help articles, and books. But the advice that people have given you (if they make time for you) have felt generic, useless, recycled, or just don't resonate with you.  There's no one else to turn to. Or is there?

Actually, there is one source that is available to you right now and always ... within you.

People have referred to this source in different ways: "Higher Self," "connection to spirit guides or the divine," "inner wisdom," "inner knowing," etc. I've found that you can access this source through a variety of means. Today I'm going to share with you how you can access your higher wisdom through a combination of meditation and automatic writing.

The process is simple:  First, sit comfortably and practice your favorite meditation for at least ten minutes to quiet your mind. While meditating, you can repeat a mantra, count numbers, or observe your breathing. Once you conclude your meditation, ask your question and then listen for the answer. As words start to manifest in your mind, type or write them down as quickly as you can, without worrying about whether they make sense to you.

For my own "meditation + automatic writing" session, I asked the following question in silence:
"Dear Spirit Guides,
What messages do you have for the world? What does the world need to hear?"

I waited for the answer, which soon came pouring out. I wrote as fast as I could without censoring myself.  Below is what I captured - my gift to you for today:

"A lot of what we do and what we are concerned about do not matter. These are superficial concerns about appearances. In vain we pursue these things and never find lasting satisfaction. Go within and listen for your heart’s true desires – you may be surprised by what you hear. The heart knows no limits, only what makes it sing! The heart is your guide to your soul. The soul needs expression; you are its instrument. Have faith that you will find your voice – your soulful voice, which may be quieter than you anticipate, shyer as compared to worldly concerns and noises, which, rolling like the ocean waves, repeatedly crashing over anything on their path, drowning out true human voices. Fear not: the purity of your voice is more resilient than anything you ever know, more focused than a laser. It touches the souls of those who hear it, touching and breaking down resistances, resistant walls, psychic barriers to human connection.

Friend: Do you fear your own voice? Ride it as it travels over tumultuous lands, touching and making peace with those it meets, embracing and enveloping one another as all form an ecstatic dance, so multidimensional and ever changing, combining, mixing – what an art form!
Friend: It’s not too late to listen intently to your heart and let out or allow your true expression of your soul. What is it? What is it like? You ask. The answer is in you and in the discovery of your true voice. No one can tell you, sell you a remedy to recover it, dress it up for truth defies dress-ups. Take away, peel away any garnishes and sit with what’s naked. Form a relationship with it. What shape will it be? Ah, you ask too much. Be silent and experience this divine relationship, channeling divine inspiration, and being transformed by the mutual feeding between you and your soul.

Be Joy. Don’t try to find it. It is already within you."
(end of automatic writing)

Now it's your turn: What is one question that you've been yearning for an answer to? I invite you to turn on the faucet and let out what's been waiting to pour forth from within.

Boldly in support of you,
